Dating back to 1978, and following Kenner’s first mail-away redemption (Lot #20), Star Wars action figures began hitting retail shelves. The first twelve, now known as 12 Back-A, were an instant sensation and were followed by two subsequent releases known as 12 Back-B and 12 Back-C. Historically significant, these twelve action figures are credited with helping launch the most iconic toy line of all-time.
Here we present a first-release Ben Kenobi from 1978. This 12 Back-A grey hair example is one we believe to be at the very top of its grade level. The imperfections exhibited on the card are vertical veining from the top through the hangtab of approx. 4 inches. The veining can be identified under the direct glare of light and does not run through to the reverse of the card. The bubble showcasing a beautiful mint figure is crystal clear resulting in very strong display value. Those looking for a nice first-release Ben need not look further.
