Addendum 10/21: According to population data provided to us by AFA, this is the only 1st Release "Spirit" label in their database.  We consulted with multiple long time, high-end MOTU collectors and, according to all of them, no other 1st Release AFA red label Snake Mountains are known to exist. 

 First Release

Presented is a rare factory sealed FIRST RELEASE Snake Mountain playset in outstanding condition.  First release Snake Mountains are exceedingly rare and are considered a grail item amongst high-end MOTU collectors.  Mattel recognized very early on that Snake Mountain was a bit too dark for children.  Initially the front of the box read “I am the Spirit of Snake Mountain”.  This was quickly amended to “I am the Voice of Snake Mountain”.  Additionally, the yellow burst in the bottom corner initially read “Voice of Evil”.  This was changed to “Voice of Snake Mountain”.  A factory sealed first release “dark” version of Snake Mountain is very difficult to locate, and this is the first AFA graded example we have had the privilege to offer to our collectors.  AFA graded it just last month and has assigned it a strong 75 overall grade.  Box quality and cover art are outstanding with no fading on the front whatsoever.  There is a blemish on the front panel above and around the E in THE (before “Spirit”).  All panels present very well with only minor imperfections.  Truly a most impressive specimen of one of the more popular and elusive playsets of the 1980s.  We expect lots of action on this lot as many high-end MOTU collectors will see a rare opportunity to add this FIRST RELEASE to their collection.  Approximately 28 x 6.5 x 20.5 inches.  Encapsulated by AFA (75), #14498243
