Addendum 10/23: According to population data provided to us by AFA, the 80+ is the second highest red label grade assigned across all examples.  Only AFA 85 is higher (population 7).

There are few collectibles from the glorious decade of the 1980’s that carry the prestige of a mint in sealed box 1984 Soundwave.  Widely considered one of the most desirable pieces in the entire G1 line, an early release Soundwave is one that is on everyone’s short list.  To the disappointment of collectors, supply falls far short of demand and even some of the most seasoned collectors find this piece eluding them.  The high demand and short supply has driven the market for Soundwave to new heights as of late.  Even the later released “rubsign” versions are realizing north of $20,000 in high grade.  

We are pleased to present a delightful, upper grade MISB example of one of the hobby’s most cherished pieces.  Instantly recognizable box art with deep color enrich this seemingly factory fresh piece.  All of the necessary attributes are present.  The reverse is magnificent, exhibiting no flap crease whatsoever. The ever important tape seal adorns both ends with no sign of give.  Aesthetically strong with few observable blemishes and recently graded in 2021; AFA has assigned an overall grade of 80+ with subgrades of 80/85/85.  We are confident that this one stacks up quite favorably against prior graded 85’s, and at recent price levels of the “rubsign” version, we see tremendous upward mobility for this early “prerub” specimen.  An outstanding piece, an iconic piece, and one certainly deserving of the LCG 5% Eye Appeal designation!  Encapsulated by AFA (80+, 80-85-85), #11761738
