The double telescoping (DT) lightsaber was the first lightsaber paired with Luke Skywalker, Ben Kenobi and Darth Vader. At some point in production, it was determined the intricacy required in the manufacturing process was too time consuming and costly to continue the DT design and the ubiquitous single piece saber was developed in its place. Although still very difficult to find, double telescoping lightsabers are most often found paired with Luke Skywalker in Early Bird Mail-Away Kits. A carded figure with DT saber is exceedingly rare.
An extremely presentable example of one of the most important and elusive Star Wars carded figures in the entire hobby: Luke Skywalker 12 Back-C with Double Telescoping Saber. Extended within the bubble seal, the DT saber held by Luke displays magnificently. This piece has been thoroughly examined and authenticated by CIB. Later it was professionally encased and the figure was assigned a strong numeric grade of 85 by Collector Archive Services. Its “preserved” designation is due to a professional color restoration of a small tear on the top corner where the retail price sticker was formerly affixed. Despite this technical flaw, this is a very attractive example of one the rarest and most desirable carded figures in the entire Star Wars line. Encapsulated by CAS (85 “preserved”), #10180344. CIB, Tom Derby.
Estimate: $12,500-20,000
