Highly desirable and very collectible Xbox “Launch Team Special Edition” with Bill Gates signature from 2001. Never sold at retail, and never intended for anyone outside of Microsoft, its estimated that only around 1,000 special edition consoles were produced (compared to 24 million retail consoles sold worldwide). These special edition units were gifted to members of the Xbox launch team and Microsoft executives. Because of production delays prior to the retail launch, it’s rumored that the Microsoft CEO at the time, Steve Balmer, was upset about diverting 1,000 consoles to the internal team - but it was done anyway (much to the satisfaction of the recipients).

Our offered example does not disappoint. It’s in mint condition and virtually free of imperfections. The black center circle includes a beautifully embossed Bill Gates facsimile signature with the inscription, “Great work!” – congratulating the internal team on a job well-done. The unit has been tested and works properly. A fantastic piece of video game history!
