POP 3 - This is one of only three AFA 80 examples found in AFA’s population report. None are graded higher.
Without a doubt, the most iconic MOTU giftset ever released: He-Man & Batttle Cat. We are pleased to present a very rare MISB first-release 8-Back with crystal clear display window. Released as part of Series 1 in 1982, there are none graded higher. In AFA’s 25-year history, only a total of 3 examples have been graded at the AFA 80 level, none higher. Our factory sealed example, graded January 2024, is the last to be added to the AFA population. This is the very first time it has hit the auction block.
The front panel displays extraordinarily well with superb Frank Frazetta-style artwork and rich color with absolutely no fading or surface wear. The front, bottom, and side panels are all in impeccable condition, virtually free of imperfections. The reverse, with only 8 characters on back (not 12), exhibits a light flap crease and a few markings but overall is very clean. Side panels are factory sealed and there is no colorbreak along the front edges. Large display window is crystal clear (exceedingly rare for a He-Man/Battle Cat) with only a few light markings on the top panel. The subjects within look great. He-Man is firmly tied at the waist to the cardboard backing and Battle Cat’s front and back right feet are tucked snuggly into the cardboard slots at the base. Battle Cat’s helmet sits at the base revealing the tiger’s ferocious face. The rubber band also sits at the base. Overall, just an awesome piece, a hobby icon, and one that represents the hero of MOTU in the best possible way. Encapsulated by AFA 80, (80-80-85) #13402199
