There are few collectibles from the glorious decade of the 1980’s that carry the prestige of a mint in sealed box Soundwave. Widely considered one of the most desirable pieces in the entire G1 Transformers line, Soundwave is on everyone’s short list. To the disappointment of collectors, supply falls far short of demand and even some of the most seasoned collectors find this piece eluding them. The high demand and short supply has driven the market for Soundwave and other key high-grade G1 Transformers to new heights. The last AFA 85 Soundwave w/ Rubsign to appear in our auctions, with subgrades of 80-85-85, sold for $35,763 in March of 2024. This is the first high-grade example we have offered since that sale, and this one is a “triple 85”, equipped with superior AFA subgrades of 85-85-85.

Our offering is an ultra high-grade example with excellent color and gloss throughout. No price tag sticker or sticker residue/imprint. Box imperfections are visible in the photos provided. A light horizontal flap impression is found on the reverse. Each end is firmly factory tape sealed. Vertical colorbreak is found along the left front edge (colorbreak on the left front edge is found on every Soundwave and traces back to the factory and their method of inserting the toy into the box). Display window is clear with no yellowing. There are a few light stress marks found on the display window and there appears to be a hair along the right edge of the cassette recorder. Both the Soundwave transformer and Buzzsaw cassette look great within. An extremely popular release, and only the third time in the last 6+ years that an AFA 85 example with triple 85 subgrades or higher has hit the market.
