Dating back to 1978, and following Kenner’s first mail-away redemption, Star Wars action figures began hitting retail shelves. The first twelve, now known as 12 Back-A, were an instant sensation and were followed by two subsequent releases known as 12 Back-B and 12 Back-C. The first release of 12-As also had a limited amount of figures that included a number (SKU) on the figure stand. It is assumed they found the printing of SKU on the stand redundant in the production process early on and a very limited amoun of SKU footer 12 backs still exist.
Here we present a first-release Ben Kenobi from 1978. This 12 Back-A example sports a strong card front and back with great color, no creases, no veins, no sticker residue, and only light edgewear on the right edge down from the mid-point.. The bubble showcasing a beautiful mint figure is crystal clear resulting in very strong display value. The top of the bubble does have a blemish on the front corner as well as one at mid-edge on the opposite side. Overall, a very strong first release piece with desirable subgrades of 80 and above. Graded August 2022
With the Obi-Wan Kenobi series now on Disney+, we expect investors and collectors to continue to pursue strong Ben pieces when they become available. Encapsulated by CAS (80, 80-80-85), 10191300
