The story of the Star Wars toy line cannot be told without mentioning its rather unconventional introduction into the marketplace.  Though Kenner had gained the rights to create the toy line, they underestimated the success of the film and were ill prepared for the tremendous Christmas demand.  In a quandary, the toy maker created a simple envelope and stand with the promise of Star Wars toys coming soon!   Unbelievably, the first piece to hit toy store shelves was not a toy but a certificate to later redeem toys.  The Star Wars Early Bird Certificate was the very first Star Wars “toy” to be released by Kenner in 1977.  These Early Bird Certificates were the gateway to Star Wars toys that forever changed history.
