According to the AFA population data, AFA 85 is the highest grade ever assigned to a Palitoy Vader 12 Back-A (pop 9). 

Please note there is an AFA 95 Palitoy 12-Back Vader in the population, but we do not know if it is an A, B, or C.

Exceptional “investment-grade” 85-85-90 Darth Vader from 1978 on 12 Back-A Palitoy card. Scant few Vader’s on Palitoy card have survived, and finding one in such exceptional condition is no easy task. In regard to AFA population, there is no question a Palitoy example is far rarer than its Kenner counterpart. As of September 2024, there are a total of only 13 Palitoy Vader’s graded by AFA in 12 Back-A form (first release). In contrast, AFA has graded 313 Kenner Vader’s in 12 Back-A form. Starwarstracker.com lists a key distinguishing feature on the Palitoy 12A release as follows: this is the debut card back for Palitoy. One distinguishing feature of the 12A compared to other Palitoy 12 backs is the extra text for the X-Wing Fighter: “with retractable wings; Laser Light and sound”. The UK issued X-Wing never has these features, so the text was later revised out.
