Dating back to 1978, and following Kenner’s first mail-away redemption (Lot #20), Star Wars action figures began hitting retail shelves. The first twelve, now known as 12 Back-A, were an instant sensation and were followed by two subsequent releases known as 12 Back-B and 12 Back-C. Historically significant, these twelve action figures are credited with helping launch the most iconic toy line of all-time.
Here we present a first-release Chewbacca from 1978. This 12 Back-A is as good as it gets for an AFA 75, and we feel it is at the very top of its grade level. The card is outstanding – no creasing, no sticker residue, and very clean. The only imperfection that we identified is on the reverse where a very faint vein appears at the point that backs the top of the bubble. Despite its 75 subgrade, the bubble is actually stellar. It’s crystal clear and the form remains original. The issue is a dent in the stem. Overall, an outstanding representation.
