We are pleased to present to our global audience the finest He-Man action figure in existence: a stunning, crystal clear AFA 90 example for which there is no rival.

The original He-Man released by Mattel as part of their Masters of the Universe toy line is, without a doubt, the most recognizable action figure of the 1980s. Its culture impact has been felt through the decades and, with this week’s theatrical release of the Masters of the Universe movie by Amazon MGM Studios, He-Man’s popularity is at an all-time high.

Momentum was felt by those paying attention. Masters of the Universe toys and action figures from the early 1980s have been on the rise for a number of years. However, a new bar was set last summer with the record-breaking sale of the iconic Castle Grayskull 12-Back, also an AFA 90, when it realized $209,410 (click here). This established an all-time record for any production toy, including Star Wars. Following that, in March of this year, a 1983 He-Man action figure paired with Teela and Ram Man as part of a Mattel giftset sold for $73,396 (click here). With the movie currently in theaters, and talk of sequels on the way, it will be very interesting to see what the future holds for the original Mattel toys.

Our offered example is one of two found at the AFA 90 grade level across all variants, with none graded higher. We have archived photos of the other example, and despite equivalent technical grades, it’s our opinion that our current offering is clearly superior. First, our example sports a crystal clear bubble and is unpunched at the top, exactly how it appeared when it left the distributor. The other has yellowed since grading and would now receive a “Y” designation if regraded today (90-Y). Also, it is punched at the top, indicating that it once hung on a retail rack and is no longer in a pristine original state. Photos are available upon request for interested parties.

Regarding condition, our AFA 90 offering is virtually flawless. All-original, the 43-year-old card exhibits vibrant color with no fading or edgewear. Few imperfections to be found. Back of card, with 12 characters, is a pefect white and is immaculate. The upper card is unpunched and there is no price tag sticker. Additionally, there is no sticker residue or sticker imprint. The bubble is crystal clear and retains perfect form. The action figure itself is pristine. An incomparable example, one that will garner serious attention from hard-core collectors and investors alike. This is the very first time this piece has been offered at auction.
