One of the most talked about action figures in the hobby, the mysterious “Wonder Bread” He-Man. Over the years, the story of this brown hair He-Man has taken on a life of its own. Long standing rumors of an early 1980’s Mattel/Wonder Bread giveaway, led rise to the nickname. That myth has since been debunked. Some thought the figure was simply a bootleg – also debunked. So what are we looking at? Why does He-Man have brown hair, black boots, and different weapons than we’re accustomed to? New evidence uncovered in the Mattel Archives has come to light in the last 24 months that may have unlocked the mystery. A chain of letters points to the figure originating from a 1983 Mattel Masters of the Universe “Buy 3, Get 1 Free” mail-away campaign. Apparently, this “Special Edition” He-Man was not well-received, and Mattel abruptly stopped mailing them out. This would explain the limited supply. There are many counterfeits of this valuable action figure, but our example has been thoroughly vetted and authenticated by AFA and graded a strong “80”. The display includes two weapons and looks absolutely sensational encased in acrylic. It has been quite some time since the last professionally graded and authenticated “Wonder Bread” He-Man has hit the market. Only one collector can emerge victorious, and we anticipate a “savage” battle over this blockbuster of a piece! Encapsulated by AFA (80), #11554475
