Prototype “First Shot” Ben Kenobi Action Figure

Prototype “Mushroom Tip” DT Saber

Prototype Alternate Dark Brown Cape

Only 4 known examples

Exceedingly rare early prototype Ben Kenobi action figure from 1977.  Veteran Star Wars collectors are well-aware that the top items in the hobby are buried deep in “black hole” collections.  It’s very exciting when a Star Wars action figure of this caliber comes to market.  With only four known examples, this one is far rarer than the “Rocket Firing” Boba Fett, of which we have seen a handful of examples hit the auction block over the last few years.  Ben Kenobi is an iconic character, one with a massive following, and this is the crown jewel of Obi Wan.

First shot Ben Kenobi action figure features HAND PAINTED hands, face, and scalp.  Plastic is shinier than production.  Evidence of beez wax or adheasive under foot, likely used to keep him in position during a photoshoot or on display at a toy fair.  Sharp details throughout.  Country of origin (COO) and year are not present.  Comes complete with dark brown prototype cape.

Includes prototype “mushroom tip”(MT) DT saber.  Unlike production DT’s, this is an early prototype, and extremely rare to find in any condition.  There are no white break points on the top side of the saber.  It comes from a different mold entirely.  This prototype version of the saber can be seen in early promotional photography and packaging art, such as on the Death Star Action playset packaging, Tie Fighter ship packaging, and in early catalogs. The knob likely prevented the thin extension from sliding too far back into the larger saber piece, as well as allowed for it to be more easily grabbed and pulled out. For whatever reason, the feature was altered prior to production and all DT figures released had the non-MT DT versions. On the hilt you can still see the bump on the outer portion of the saber which is indicative of all Ben Kenobi MT DT's.  This is not present on production sabers.  Please note, this is not a first shot Ben paired with a production DT -  Everything is prototype

Item comes beautifully encased in acrylic and fully authenticated by AFA. Numeric grade was declined by the previous owner in favor of “NG” (no grade), which we believe is ideal for this particular example. A “holy grail” collectible reserved for a world-class Star Wars collection. Encapsulated by AFA (NG), #11194214, Collectible Investment Brokerage (COA)
