With the holiday season fast approaching in late 1977, and knowing they didn’t have time to bring a toy line to market for Christmas, Kenner came up with a plan: Create a mail-away Certificate Program that entitled one to the first four action figures in the line (the Early Bird Kit), which then offered yet another mail-away redemption (the First Twelve Display Stand - see lot #41).  It was risky, but it worked!
