The double telescoping (DT) lightsaber was the first lightsaber paired with Luke Skywalker, Ben Kenobi and Darth Vader. At some point in production, it was determined the intricacy required in the manufacturing process was too time consuming and costly to continue the DT design and the ubiquitous single piece saber was developed in its place. 

This pre-production Engineering Pilot Ben Kenobi with translucent Prototype yellow DT Saber originates from a Kenner source.  The letters K & 27 are written on his feet and the chest has the very distinct cross hatch pattern found on scratch test examples. There are no other translucent DT sabers found with a Ben in any known quantity from Kenner sources: this is the only known pairing and is truly one of a kind.  Encapsulated by AFA (80), #10478520.  CIB, Tom Derby.
